(Greenville, SC) (July 29, 2008) Greenville Kennel Club and The Greenville County Recreation District announced today that they will be celebrating AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day (RDO Day) on September 27, 2008. The goal of this initiative, supported by the American Kennel Club© is to educate first-time dog owners about the responsibilities of dog ownership and help current owners enhance the relationship with their pet.
The free event includes: Canine Good Citizen demonstration and testing, a microchip clinic from The Greenville Humane Society, demos by the City of Mauldin and Greenville County Sherriff’s Canine units, AKC’s Children and Dog Safety presented by Outlaw Veterinarian Hospital, visits from the Appalachian Houndsmen Association, Sue Conklin - The Puppy Nanny and the German Shepherd Club of the Upstate. Booths will also be set to demonstrate grooming tips from Debbie Beckwith of the Clemson Kennel Club, as well as Greenville Tech’s Small Animal Care program.
The fields at the Pavilion will be host to the event which will take place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. A silent auction will be held to benefit the GCRD’s Dog Parks being built at Pavilion and several other county park locations. Box lunches and concessions will be available for purchase throughout the day.
All attendees are asked to bring recycled newspapers and dog food donations to benefit the Greenville Humane Society.
